About myself

My name is Aliona Shestakova-Stukun. I am a Slavist and a Russian, Polish, Ukrainian, and Old Church Slavonic language teacher. I completed a PhD program at Saint Petersburg State University, specializing in Slavic Studies (majoring in Polish), and have been teaching Slavic languages
for 8 years. I also have some knowledge of Bulgarian, Belarusian, and Serbian languages, and can share interesting information about them.

Now I'm living in Yerevan (Armenia) and offer in-person lessons here. I am also proud to collaborate with a school Aspirantum that specializes in Russian, Persian, and Armenian languages.
My methods in teaching
My main method is the communicative approach. During the lessons, we engage in conversation, listening, and practice understanding real-life speech. We also study grammar to ensure that ideas are expressed correctly.

In group lessons, I encourage students to speak with one another, allowing them to interact with people who are also learning the language, making similar mistakes, and facing the same challenges. This collaborative environment will help you improve your language skills.

As someone who is always learning new languages, I can relate to you not only as a teacher but also as a fellow learner ;)
My methods in teaching Old Church Slavonic
When teaching Old Church Slavonic, a non-spoken language, the focus is primarily on analyzing ancient texts and exploring their grammatical and lexical features. These texts offer a fascinating insight into the etymology of words in modern Slavic languages, allowing us to trace their historical evolution—an essential part of our lessons. Through Old Church Slavonic, you'll rediscover the Slavic languages you already know, seeing them from a new and enriching perspective.
Lessons
Lessons are conducted online via Zoom, a convenient platform for holding classes. Additionally, I use various interactive tools and online materials. I provide all the necessary resources, so you won’t need to search for information—unless you'd like to explore something specific on your own.

Please feel free to reach out to me, and we can begin our journey into the fascinating world of Slavic languages!
