Course “The Codex Suprasliensis. A Paschal Homily by John Chrysostom”

On the eve of Easter, I invite you to a mini-course
“The Codex Suprasliensis. John Chrysostom’s Easter Homily”

We will delve into one of the earliest versions of this text, examining its grammar and vocabulary, paying close attention to the script and the specifics of the manuscript tradition. We will read the text carefully and comment on every important detail (and there are many!).

At the heart of our work is the Codex Suprasliensis, one of the most valuable monuments of Old Church Slavonic written culture. Throughout the course, we will read a fragment of John Chrysostom’s Easter Homily in its early linguistic version.

This course will be useful for those who:
  • are interested in reading manuscripts and in the history of texts;
  • already have some knowledge of Old Church Slavonic and want to deepen it;

  • wish to gain a deeper understanding of the Easter tradition through the language of the original source.
